Ceylon lies at the foot of India across the straits from the province of Tamil Nadu in the south. In history the term " The Island of Tea " is quite often used. Ceylon ( Sri Lanka ) is known for the production of Black Teas amongst the most popular grades is Ceylon Orange Pekoe. Various qualities of teas are produced in Ceylon with the best qualities being grown in the highlands of Central Ceylon.
The best quality teas come from the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Dimbulla and Uva.
Both large loose leaf tea grades are produced and the smaller leaf grades which by and large are used for tea bag production.

Ceylon is also known for its Elephants and pictured to the right here is a famous resident of an Elephant sanctuary who is blind and his mahout who is also blind.
