![]() Coffee in KentWe started roasting coffee at Pivington Mill in the early 1980's using a row of small gas roasters. The smoke was known to waft around the site. We had three fires ! which made one a little nervous. Small batch roasting was ok to start with but we soon outgrew our small drum roasting machines. With the small coffee roasting machines precise control is difficult and we were in search of better roasting methods and better quality. Today with the advent of the internet you can buy coffee online: |
![]() Coffee RoastingToday our coffee's are roasted by europe's most modern convection roasting machine ( about two million pounds worth ! ). Computer technology has come to the fore in roasting in recent years and everything is controled by computer. Flow of coffee, blending of multi bean roasts, the application of the heat cycle during roasting. It has become an exact professional science especially compared to old coffee roasting drum machines that are used. Because we roast by air convection (i.e hot air) the control of heat is precise which reduces energy consumption and emissions with the help of a catalytic converter. Enviromentally friendly with a better smoother taste. There are 46 shades of colour for roasted beans. Every roast has it's colour settings and if a roast is just one colour out it is rejected. This gives you consistancy of roast which is a must for our customers. |
