Description

Dictamo of Crete (also called Dittany of Crete, Cretan Dittany and Hop Marjoram) is a type of Herbal Tea. It is known in the Cretan dialect as Έρωντας, which means “love” - and love it you shall.

This infusion bears several similarities to our Cretan Mountain Tea Malotira, including its floral, herbaceous taste and health benefits. Giannis, our good Cretan friend, harvests it high in the hills near his home.

When it arrives here at our Pluckley-based factory, we pack it fresh to order ready for you to enjoy. This is our way of guaranteeing not only quality but also consistency with every cuppa brewed.

Why not buy it and try it with The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company today? Embrace the bold, unique characteristics of Dictamo of Crete and share a pot with friends.

What is Dictamo of Crete?

Dictamo of Crete (Origanum dictamnus) is a tender perennial capable of growing 10-20 centimetres in height. It has many branches with ovate, grey-green leaves - the latter component of which we use in the making of this Tea.

Its flowers, meanwhile, are pale-pink to purple and bloom in the summer months; they’re particularly popular among bees. Humans, too, have found an appreciation for Dictamo of Crete.

The herb has, historically, been considered as an aphrodisiac. Indeed, it was once only the most ardent of young lovers who risked scrambling up treacherous mountainsides to collect it.

Hippocrates, the famous Greek physician of antiquity, prescribed the plant to people with stomach aches and other digestive complaints. The philosopher Aristotle, on the other hand, believed it could heal arrow wounds.

Dictamo of Crete in Popular Fiction

Dictamo of Crete and its healing properties even featured in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Hermione Granger, in the last book, The Deathly Hallows, tried to help a wounded Ron Weasley using it.

Although Dictamo of Crete will unlikely provide support to ailing witches and wizards, modern science indicates that it does, in fact, have health benefits. Best of all, however, is the fact that it tastes great.

How to Brew Dictamo of Crete

1, Put the her tea into a Tea Infuser or Filter (both available here).

2,Place the Tea-filled accessory in a mug or cup.

3,Pour freshly boiled water over the Loose Leaf Tea.

4, Allow it to steep for 5-10 minutes.

How to Serve: Best served without additions. However, some like to have honey or lemon.

Health Benefits of Dictamo of Crete

This Tea contains an abundance of powerful antioxidants, as well as antiseptic and antifungal properties. Its antioxidants, in particular, combat free radicals in the body - the product of natural, though harmful, human oxidation.

This ultimately reduces the risk of developing a multitude of chronic conditions. What more could you want from your new favourite beverage?
