What is Golden Monkey Black Tea

The "Golden Monkey" name is commonly used for various types. To identify specific flavour components, it is recommended to examine the tea leaves and taste a sample. This tea is highly regarded, as shown by its impressive second-place ranking in the 2009 World Tea Championship's Signature Famous Teas - Hot Tea Class.

Each spring, the leaves and buds are meticulously hand-plucked, resulting in one of the finest black teas in the world. Named after the distinctive shape of its leaves resembling monkey claws.

Cultivated at altitudes of 1200 metres in the picturesque Yunnan province. Discover the perfect blend of mountainous terrain, misty atmosphere, and expert craftsmanship in every sip.

For 1700 years, this tea has been cherished. In ancient times, it was savoured by local landlords and Taipans. Its rarity led the Taipans to attribute special powers to it, believing it granted agility and enhanced sexual prowess.

How to Brew Golden Monkey Tea

Brewing Golden Monkey tea is simple yet rewarding. It's important to get the right balance between temperature, time and quantity of leaves:

  • Temperature: Boil water to a temperature of 95-100°C (203-212°F).
  • Time: Steep for 2-3 minutes.
  • Quantity of Leaves: Use 1 teaspoon (4 to 5g) of loose per cup (200ml).

For iced tea, use the same quantity of leaves and steep for 5-7 minutes. To enjoy a cold brew version, add 4 teaspoons (10g) of golden monkey tea to a litre (0.3 gallons) of cold water and leave it in the fridge overnight or up to 24 hours.

To unlock the full array of flavours, it's best to use spring water or filtered water when brewing. Enjoy with or without milk and sugar, as desired.

Tasting Notes: Known for its delightful combination of honey, apricot and caramel notes.

Caffeine Content: Contains between 20 to 70 milligrams of caffeine, depending on  how long it is brewed.

Golden Monkey Black Tea Benefits

The Golden Monkey Black Tea is not just a delight for your taste buds, but it also comes packed with a wealth of health benefits. Regular consumption of this tea may contribute to overall wellness, due to its high content of antioxidants known as theaflavins. These antioxidants are reported to have potent anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-lowering properties.

It is also believed to help in weight management by boosting metabolism and promoting fat oxidation. The moderate caffeine content in this tea can serve as a gentle stimulant, helping to increase alertness and improve cognitive function.

As with many teas, the Golden Monkey Tea may aid digestion and soothe the stomach. It is traditionally used in Chinese medicine for its purported beneficial effects on the digestive system. Regular drinkers of this tea have reported a sense of calmness and relaxation, possibly due to the presence of an amino acid known as L-theanine, which is known to reduce stress and promote sleep.

However, it is worth noting that while Black Tea Benefits have many potential health benefits, they should be consumed as part of a balanced diet and should not replace medical treatment. As with all dietary components, moderation is key.
