Description

You’ve just discovered the best Moroccan Mint Tea. This is a Flavoured Gunpowder Green Tea combined with Peppermint leaves to create a match made in heaven. The infusion has a close association with Moroccan culture. However, it has since spread around the world. Be sure to buy Moroccan Mint Tea online or in-store here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.

What is Moroccan Mint Tea?

This blend (also called Maghrebi Mint Tea, Sahrawi Mint Tea and Touareg) includes Chinese Green Tea that has been rolled into small pellets. Accompanying these leaves is either Peppermint or Spearmint. Moroccan Mint Tea’s history dates back to the late-17th or early-18th century when Queen Anne (1665-1714) sent Tea to Sultan Moulay Ismail for releasing captured Britons.

Today, traditional Moroccan Mint Tea has become a bedrock of the local culture. Its creation for guests now signifies hospitality and affection, a preparation process that is almost ritualistic in nature. Those invited to have a cup - three! - of it must practise patience to adhere to the age-old saying, “Insha Allah”. In the context of making a brew, the term means that with God willing, all things come with time.

The host will first gather their Teaware - a tray adorned with an intricately designed Teapot and similarly ornate glasses. They will then rinse the Teapot with boiling water before adding Moroccan Mint Tea leaves and sugar. More water is added to the pot so that the Tea can steep for a few minutes. The next step takes impeccable precision as the host pours the liquid into the glasses from an impressive height.

It is paramount that a thin layer of foam appears on the surface. Should it not, the host will repeat the process with a fresh batch. But assuming everything goes to plan, you’ll soon be enjoying a delicious, invigorating and health beneficial cuppa in the company of new friends. Just don’t refuse their humble and most generous invitation as Moroccans don’t take kindly to impoliteness!

Moroccan Mint Tea Caffeine

Does Moroccan Mint Tea have caffeine? The simple answer is yes; it does. While Peppermint Tea on its own is 100% void of the famous stimulating chemical compound, Green Tea has about 30-mg of caffeine per serving.

This, of course, makes it an excellent choice if you’re looking for a small yet noticeable boost first thing in the morning. Discover its potential by brewing it to perfection.

How to Make Moroccan Mint Tea

  1. Put Moroccan Mint Loose Leaf Tea into a Tea Infuser or Filter.

  2. Place the Tea-filled accessory in a mug or cup.

  3. Boil fresh water and allow it to cool to temperatures between 80 and 90°C.

  4. Infuse for 1 to 3 minutes. Any longer and you risk creating a bitter flavour.

How to Serve: Consider honey or lemon. Alternatively, serve without accompaniments.

Tasting Notes: Moroccan Mint Tea tastes truly delicious with its minty overtones and grassy undertones.
