Historically, few people lived in the Leicestershire area before the 10th century CE. The clearest exception to this is Watling Street, a famous Roman road that straddles the county’s boundary with Warwickshire. By 1086, the area had been dubbed “Lægrecastrescir”, although in the Domesday Book of the same year it was also called “Ledecestrescire ”. In 1124, it became known as “Leþecæstrescir”, with “Leicestershire” adopted later.
This delightful county’s external boundaries have changed little since the Domesday Survey. Today, its largest settlements include Loughborough, Hinckley, Wigston and Coalville.
Wherever you go, no matter what you do, you’re bound to find a lovely Afternoon Tea Leicestershire venue. So what are you waiting for? Start exploring!
