Welcome to Leicester, one of the oldest cities in England. This historic area is the county town of Leicestershire, located in the East Midlands. It finds itself northeast of Birmingham and Coventry, south of Nottingham and west of Peterborough.
Also nearby is the eastern end of the National Forest, which makes for a wonderful day out. Once you’ve worked up an appetite walking around, however, you’re going to want to have an Afternoon Tea in Leicester.
The history of Leicester dates back at least two millennia. When the Romans arrived in Britain, they encountered a native Iron Age settlement that probably developed in the 2nd or 1st centuries BCE.
It remains unclear whether the Romans fortified the location. Still, it eventually evolved into a tribal capital of the Corieltauvians under the name Ratae Corieltauvorum.
Perhaps most famously, Leicester has a close association with King Richard III. At the end of the War of the Roses, the notorious monarch was buried in Greyfriars Church – a structure that was eventually demolished.
However, in 2012, an archaeological investigation rediscovered the burial site under a car park. Today, visiting an Afternoon Tea Leicester venue is just one way of appreciating all things regal in this much-loved city.
