The history of Blyth dates back to the 12th century, although the development of the modern town began in the early 1700s.
During this period, coal mining and shipbuilding played a significant role in the local economy. However, these industries eventually declined, which greatly affected the area. It wasn’t until the 1990s, in fact, that Blyth underwent regeneration.
Since then, several high street retailers have opened their doors, bringing new investment to the town.
