This beautiful area gets its name from the “Shrine of Our Lady”, an old chapel located on the nearby cliffs. During the 14th century, a fishing village was established a short distance away.

In time, it became known as “Broadstairs” after the flight of steps leading up to this place of worship. Folklore suggests that Broadstairs was the first place in England to hear of the victory at Waterloo in 1815.

Today, you can soak up the sun while relaxing in and around Viking Bay. If you fancy taking in some culture, there are a plethora of local art galleries worth visiting. And when the fish n’ chips gets too heavy on the palate, consider opting for an Afternoon Tea Broadstairs venue instead. There are certainly plenty to choose from!
