The history of St Ives dates back hundreds of years, boasting many noteworthy moments in its remarkable story. Fame arrived at its shores during the Spanish Armada of 1597 when two enemy vessels tried finding shelter from the storm nearby.
The English warship, Warspite, eventually captured them. Much of the town’s development took place following the arrival of the railway in 1877. With it came a new generation of Victorian seaside holidaymakers.
Today, St Ives remains an ever-popular tourist destination that never ceases to inspire. In 2010 and again in 2011, it achieved the title of Best UK Seaside Town from the British Travel Awards.
