The history of Dartmouth dates back several centuries. During the Crusades, soldiers heading off to the “Holy Land” set sail from its ports.

Later, it became the home of the Royal Navy from the reign of Edward III, leading to it twice being sacked during the Hundred Years’ War.

It was also from here that the Pilgrim Fathers, en route to America, stopped and rested as part of their long journey.

Today, the area’s association with the New World exists in its twinning with Dartmouth, Massachusetts. It eventually played a significant role in the Second World War when US forces departed from here before the D-Day landings.

Whatever your reason for visiting, regardless of whether you’re interested in its origins, stopping in an Afternoon Tea Dartmouth establishment is an excellent choice.
