When it comes to having an Afternoon Tea in Dawlish, you’re in for a treat. This seaside resort town finds itself on the south coast of Devon, some 12 miles from the county town of Exeter and the larger resort of Torquay.
Specifically, it lies on a small river known as Dawlish Water (also called The Brook), wedged between Permian red sandstone cliffs and fronted by a sandy beach. Residents and visitors alike love to relax here – either before or after indulging in the finest delicacies.

Before the establishment of Dawlish, local fishermen took advantage of the area’s natural resources. Although a settlement has stood here for centuries, little of note happened until the end of the 18th century.
This was when seaside locations on the south coast started to become popular with wealthy tourists, prompting significant development.
Nowadays, Dawlish is perhaps best known for its black swans, introduced from Western Australia. These majestic creatures live with other exotic waterfowl in a small urban sanctuary on Dawlish Water.
There are several other attractions in and around town, including, of course, a number of Afternoon Tea Dawlish establishments. Why not stop in one today and have a cuppa with scones?
