Unlike many towns, villages and settlements in the UK, Bournemouth only dates back to the 19th century. Indeed, before its establishment in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, it was but wild, deserted heathland.

Bournemouth grew significantly following references to it in Augustus Granville’s 1841 book, “The Spas of England”. Further development took place following the arrival of the railway, which in time saw the area become a town in 1870.

Bournemouth became a part of Dorset following the reorganisation of local government in 1974. Today, it’s well known for several examples of outstanding Victorian architecture, attracting over five million tourists every year.

On your next visit, be sure to stop at an Afternoon Tea Bournemouth venue for a nice spot of lunch.
