Description

Albanian Mountain Tea is wholesome, is delicious, is invigorating. It is a close relative of Greek Mountain Tea, Cretan Mountain Tea Malotira and Mountain Tea Sideritis Scarditis; but is also slightly different. Albanian Mountain Tea comes from the Sideritis syriaca plant. When brewed, it boasts a strong herbaceous flavour with a refreshing aftertaste.

This Tea has a close association with The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company, particularly with its owner, Mr Richard Smith. An Albanian friend of Mr Smith's named Mr Jimis Hilas has long recommended this beneficial brew for improving health and wellbeing.

Indeed, Mr Hilas is absolutely right. When consumed as part of a healthy and active lifestyle, Albanian Mountain Tea can offer outstanding medicinal qualities. Its antioxidants can combat free radicals in the body, which are the product of natural, though harmful, human oxidation. In doing this, Albanian Mountain Tea can reduce the risks of developing many chronic conditions. What more could you want from your favourite cup of Herbal Tea?

What is Albanian Mountain Tea?

Syriaca is one of 150 different types of the Sideritis plant. This family includes Sideritis raeseri, Sideritis euboea, Sideritis montana and, of course, the renowned Sideritis scardica. Despite its adopted name of "Albanian Mountain Tea", this plant also grows in Greece.

Albanian Mountain Tea, as well as Greek Mountain Tea and others like it, are most popular in the countries of Albania, Greece, Turkey, The Republic of North Macedonia, and Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Government, in particular, have long protected plants of the Sideritis family by law. In fact, such is the importance of this herb in Bulgaria, that the government only permits a select few people to grow and harvest it!

Today, many choose to drink Albanian Mountain Tea for its health benefits. These health benefits, according to the latest scientific research, include improved digestion; immune system support; mild anxiety relief and even enhanced sexual vitality! Most people, however, choose to drink Albanian Mountain Tea for its extraordinarily scrumptious taste!

How to Make Albanian Mountain Tea

Type of Tea: Herbal Tea.

Origin: Albania.

Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water. Infuse for 5 to 10 minutes.

How to Serve: We recommend serving this Tea without any accompaniments. Some, however, choose to add a bit of lemon!

Tasting Notes: Albanian Mountain Tea has defined notes reminiscent of mint and sage. It is sweet, smooth and herbaceous with every sip, leaving a delightfully refreshing aftertaste to finish.

Colour in Cup: Pale yellow liquor, light in tone.

Health Benefits of Albanian Mountain Tea

A recent study described all types of the Sideritis plant as: "potent as Green Tea at inducing cellular antioxidant defences and prevent[ing] oxidative stress". This was according to a report published in the Journal of Science of Food and Agriculture.

Furthermore, preliminary research has suggested that the frequent consumption of this Tea can combat the early signs of Alzheimer's Disease. Until we know more, however, The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company do not endorse this Tea, or any Tea, for this purpose.

  1. Interesting herbaceous flavours. Comes as big stalks that you have to break up to put in your pot or infuser. I've visited Albania and was pleased to find this tea for sale.
