What is Sumatra Coffee from Indonesia?

Your favourite brew started life in Ethiopia some 1,000 years ago. Coffee beans didn’t arrive in Indonesia until the late-17th or early-18th centuries, having been introduced by the Dutch. Its production nevertheless spread quickly.

However, in the 1880s, a plant-based disease called Coffee rust all but destroyed crops, particularly on the Indonesian island of Java - as well as in Sumatra.

Local farmers had no choice but to move out of the lowlands and onto high plateaus in an attempt to maintain profitable cultivation.

It worked. What’s more, the higher altitudes improved the quality of the beans, a quality that indeed remains to this day.

Indonesia, and Sumatra in particular, is now one of the best-known and most-loved Coffee-growing regions in the world. And with good reason.

Where is Sumatra Coffee Grown?

Sumatra Coffee Beans originate from the north-central region of Sumatra, specifically near Lake Toba. The area itself is, in fact, called Lintong, its landscape offering unique soils and near-perfect climatic conditions.

These characteristics lend themselves to the outstanding and unmistakably bold taste of Sumatra Lintong Coffee. Why not find out for yourself? You won’t be disappointed.

  2. I like this coffee, but I also like many others. It has the flavours that appeal to me being strong but not burnt with smooth textures. This one I keep coming back to so it has something extra for me. Always black with no sugar to get the best flavours.

  6. Great aroma and I drank this every day till it was gone. Shame they can't find a suitable ethical source providing rainforest guarantees or I would give it 5 stars and buy it more than once a year.
