Ruhunu Ceylon Tea, originating from Sri Lanka, is not as well known as the likes of Kandy, Uva, Dimbula and Nuwara Eliya Tea. However, despite its relatively low profile, it has much to offer, including exceptional taste, characteristics and, when consumed frequently, health benefits.

Ruhunu is a region in the low-lying districts of southwest Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). It is a land of hilly terrain and vast plains, fertile soils and favourable climatic conditions.
The production of Ceylon Black Tea began here in the 20th century, some years after other regions - which started cultivation in the mid-19th century. Nevertheless, what these estates lack in age, they make up for in high-quality leaves.
While most varieties of Ruhunu Ceylon Tea are Black Tea, there are exceptions to the rule. One noteworthy example is our very own Moragalla Ceylon Oolong Tea. Oolong Tea is a partially oxidised Tea considered the middle-ground between Black and Green.
When brewed, it provides delectably malty notes with almost roasted undertones - a true delight to the senses from beginning to end.
Of course, when it comes to traditionalism, Black Tea rules supreme, which is why we also stock Ceylon Ruhunu Lumbini Estate Tea OP1 and Ceylon Kiruwanaganga Silver Tips.
The former is a well-manufactured orthodox Loose Leaf Tea noted for its full-bodied profile with hints reminiscent of plum. The latter boasts similar traits with honey-like undertones.
What it lacks in name recognition, though, it makes up for in outstanding quality. Black Tea from this area often has a punchy flavour, particularly those from the Lumbini and Ratnapura Estates.
If you travel towards the east, the terrain turns into jungle historically inhabited by wildlife such as elephants, leopards, wild boars and bears. Today, several game reserves exist to preserve its nature.
