Buy Teas from Shizuoka in Japan

An estimated 40% of Japanese Green Tea is Shizuoka Green Tea. The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company currently stock two varieties: Uchiyama Sencha Green Tea and Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea.

Both have unique profiles, flavours and other characteristics that will, undoubtedly, impress first-time drinkers and experts alike. We pack them fresh to order, ensuring quality and consistency.

About the Shizuoka Tea Plantations

Shizuoka is a prefecture (district) in Japan located in the Chūbu region of Honshu. It borders Kanagawa Prefecture to the east, Yamanashi Prefecture to the northeast, Nagano Prefecture to the north, and Aichi Prefecture to the west.

Perhaps best known for Mount Fuji, the tallest volcano in Japan, which is partially within the region, Shizuoka is also ideal for Green Tea-growing and processing.

The towering presence of Mount Fuji turns out to have a significant influence on production. This active but dormant volcano boasts soil rich with minerals that ensure nutritional and great-tasting infusions.

Shizuoka Tea farms harvest the leaves from mid-April until October. The most famous types of Shizuoka Green Tea, meanwhile, are the very ones we stock here for you to buy and try.

What Makes Uchiyama Sencha Green Tea so Special?

This beloved Japanese Green Tea has received organic certification, ensuring that it is free of pesticides or insecticides, bio-engineered genes and petroleum/sewage-based fertilisers.

Workers pick it in the springtime as the loose leaves unfurl after the winter months. When brewed, it has a beautiful flowery aroma with a bright, smooth, slightly sweet flavour.

Why Drink Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea?

Another popular Shizuoka Tea is Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea, which grows in the fertile soils near Mount Fuji. Like its Sencha counterpart, it is harvested in the spring and steamed lightly before rolling, producing a shiny, brittle tea leaves.

The liquor, upon brewing, is a shimming olive green. Every sip has a pleasant sweet note while teeming with health-beneficial antioxidants.
