Vietnamese Tea

Vietnamese Tea

Vietnamese Tea boasts a long and fascinating history dating back thousands of years. Though not as well known as Chinese or Japanese Tea, it still has much to offer casual drinkers and connoisseurs alike.

We currently stock three types here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company. These are Vietnam Flowery Orange Pekoe Green Tea, Vietnam Orange Pekoe, and Vietnam Tung Ting Oolong Tea.

Vietnam Tea Culture and the History of Tea in Vietnam

Tea growing in Vietnam began millennia ago. However, it wasn’t until the French conquest of the country during the 19th century that mass production and exportation started.

Vietnam Tea plantations eventually appeared across the landscape as Tea’s consumption slowly but surely became ingrained in the local culture. Today, now independent from France, Vietnam is the seventh-largest producer in the world.

Vietnamese people tend to enjoy a cuppa first thing in the morning, as well as at Vietnamese Tea ceremonies for weddings and other events. It is served continuously throughout the day, especially at mealtimes.

While all varieties can be found in households, the most popular is, unquestionably, Vietnamese Green Tea, which accounts for an estimated 65% of sales. But what are the other types?

Types of Vietnamese Tea

Oolong Tea from Vietnam is almost as sought after as its Green Tea counterpart. Also much loved are floral-flavoured White Tea varieties such as Lotus Tea.

Additionally, if somewhat unexpectedly, Artichoke Tea is a delicacy! The next question is determining how to make Vietnamese Tea. The below step-by-step instructions are for brewing up the best known Vietnamese Green Tea

How to Make Vietnamese Tea

  • Place Loose Green Tea in a Filter or Infuser, then in a Cup.

  • Put the Kettle on and Let it Cool to Temperatures Between 70°C and 90°C.

  • Pour in Water to Begin Brewing.

  • Allow it to Infuse / Steep for One to Two Minutes for the Best Flavour.

Vietnamese Tea Benefits

If taste alone wasn’t enough, there is always the chance of frequent consumption offering Vietnamese Green Tea benefits. Studies indicate that it can, among other qualities, promote weight loss, improve cardiovascular health, aid digestion, rejuvenate the skin, and even reduce the risk of developing type-2 diabetes.
