History- Based 12 miles from the Ilam Haat Bazaar (open air market) lies the Sakhira Tea Garden based on the Sakhejung Hill Range, this Tea Estate was founded by a group of farmers in 2000. Since then, the farmers now produce green teas and speciality teas. The word 'Ilam' is a combination of two words in Limbu dialect, 'I' referring to the word 'winding' and 'Lam' denotes the way. This is a reference to the long winding roads and hills that cover Ilam which makes it perfect for tea growing.
