History of Gopaldhara Tea Estate

Gopaldhara Tea Estate is a picturesque tea garden in the heart of West Bengal, bringing to life the alluring scenery and culture of Mirik. Nestled within Mirik CD Block and its subdivision, this lush haven offers visitors an enchanting glimpse into traditional Indian heritage.

Established in 1881, the Gopaldhara Tea Estate has undergone a long history of ownership. From Tappu and Tara Sahib to Kingslay, Moolji Sikka and Company, until finally arriving with Dalchand Saria's acquisition in 1953–54. This tea estate is now professionally managed by its present owners Shiv Saria and his grandson Hrishikesh Saria under their Sona Tea Group banner.

In addition to running Gopldhara Estate itself, other estates such as Rohini Garden in Darjeeling and New Glenco and Soonagachi are also overseen by them.

  5. Tastes more like an Assam tea! Malty, dark colour, not a trace of the much-vaunted "muscatel", and no fragrance at all; leaves a stain/coating on my porcelain cups!
Aficionados of Assam tea would like it better than I do! Not nearly as good as I've had from other UK suppliers, and not a patch on what I used to drink in college in India, circa 1960, from tea broker single estate samples, courtesy of a classmate!
