Calypso Espresso Roast
Calypso Espresso Roast Coffee is one of our catering Espressos - one made with a terrific blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian Arabicas combined with Asian Robustas. It boasts a deep, rich, chocolatey flavour with subtle earthy notes, qualities that combine to create an underlying chocolate and almost spicy experience on the palate. It has an excellent body that cuts through milky drinks notably well. It is also a popular choice among Coffee Connoisseurs who have come to love the complex taste notes of this unusual brew. All of our Coffees, including Calypso Espresso Roast Coffee, are roasted using the latest state-of-the-art Neuhaus Neotec fluidised air-bed system, which primarily uses convection heat transfer to roast the beans. Ultimately, this ensures not only quality but also consistency with all of our Coffees, Calypso Espresso Roast being, of course, no exception. Once roasted, Calypso Espresso Roast Coffee, as well as all of our Coffees, as well as all of our Teas and Tisanes, are packed fresh to order here in our Kent-based factory. We are committed to keeping all of our products fresh, meaning Calypso Espresso Roast will always taste its best from the first sip until the last.
Let’s begin by exploring the Brazilian Coffee included in this beverage. Brazil produces a third of the world’s Coffee, while also being the world’s largest producer and exporter. The country grows Coffee at an average elevation of 1,100 metres, which is significantly lower than many neighbouring South American countries. Harvesting takes place between May and September, producing, on average, 40 to 60 million bags for exportation. In 2016 alone, Brazil produced a remarkable 2,595,000 metric tons of Coffee.
But what about the Ethiopian Coffees included in Calypso Espresso Roast? It is important to note that Ethiopia in Africa is the home of Coffee. According to legend, Coffee was discovered by a humble goat herder named Kaldi. One day, Kaldi witnessed his goats grazing on an unknown plant, their energy levels obviously boosted as they jumped and pranced around their pasture. Intrigued, Kaldi decided to pick the berries from the plant and try them for himself. He felt the same sense of elation. And so Coffee was born.
Today, African Coffee is considered by many to be the best in the world, mostly due to the high elevations and lush soil conditions in which it grows. Since 2003, Africa’s total global Coffee exports have increased by over 300% and continue to grow with each passing year. According to 2015 statistics, Ethiopia accounts for 39% of Africa’s Coffee production, followed by Uganda at 23%, the Ivory Coast at 13%, Tanzania at 6% and Kenya at 5%. Combined, Africa currently accounts for 12% of global Coffee production.
Finally, the Asian Robusta beans used in this Coffee are, contrary to popular belief, of outstanding quality. The truth is that Asian Coffees have a bad name. Here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company, meanwhile, we sift through the bad and use only the good. Because, ultimately, Calypso Espresso Roast is “good” through and through. In fact, it is more than good; it is wonderful!
Origin: Brazil, Ethiopia (Arabica) and Asia (Robusta).
