Another fantastic example of Darjeeling First Flush Tea, the Namring Tea Estate is split into Upper and Lower divisions and comprises of famous estates such as Poobong and Namring. This estate also uses a combination of tea bushes; a China, Clonal, and Assam hybrid. With its neat leaf with tip and lively character, Darjeeling 1st Flush Tea Namring Upper is truly a rare and exquisite tea perfect for anyone looking to be adventurous!

The history of Darjeeling tea is relatively young in comparison with other blends dating back thousands of years. In fact, the iconic brew we know and love today owes its origin to Scottish explorer and botanist, Robert Fortune, who nearly 200 years ago, smuggled the tea seeds from China to plant within Darjeeling.

As Colonial Rule took hold of India in the 19th Century, the British Empire were quick to expand on the district’s humble enterprises as tensions grew with China – Britain’s sole supplier of tea up until then. By the mid-1800’s, Darjeeling had already grown from a small hamlet found in a secluded area of the Himalayas to a bustling industrial asset with 39 tea plantations of 1000 acres producing 133,00 lbs of tea.

Today, the district now boasts around 80 tea estates in the hills which have been recognised as Darjeeling tea producers, by the Tea Board of India. These estates cover approximately 17,500 hectares and produce over 9 million kg of tea! Namring estate in particular, dates back to 1855, where the Darjeeling Company was first established. An hour’s drive away from Darjeeling itself, it produces 1,200 metric tonnes of fresh green leaves annually.

Leaf Grade: Fine, tippy, golden, flowery, Orange Pekoe – Grade 1.  

Harvest: April 2017.

Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water at 80 degrees and infuse for 3 to 5 minutes.

How to Serve: This blend is best served as it is.

Notes: Rich with bright, floral and nutty notes along with delicate tropical fruit undertones.

Colour in Cup: Golden liquor, light in tone.
