Kenya Kambaa Estate Tea BP1

Description

The Kambaa Tea factory lies in the Kenyan district of Kiambu some 60 kilometres to the west of Nairobi. Tea was introduced into Kenya after India's partition and the following migration of tea planters to Kenya. They brought with them tea plants and the skills to establish tea gardens into the most fertile parts of Kenya, especially to the East of the Rift Valley.

Kambaa was established in 1974 to provide a factory facility for small tea farmers locally, indeed over 5,400 small farms supply leaf into the central factory. To start with production was in the region of 10 million kilos of green leaf but nowadays the factory handles in excess of 15 million kilos of tea per annum. The factory company offer the small farmers advice and help on plant husbandry, from fertilisers to use, how to best prune and pluck the bushes and keep weeds at bay.

A centralised leaf collection system ensures the freshest leaves possible get to the factory. These controls put Kambaa in the top 20 of Kenyan Tea Gardens for quality, gaining high demand and good prices at auction in Mombasa.
