About China Black Tea
The history of Tea in China began, according to legend, some 5,000 years ago. An ancient Chinese Emperor named Shennong came to rest underneath an unknown tree. He fell asleep in the midday sun with a cup of boiling water by his side.
When he awoke, he found that leaves from the tree had dropped into his drink. They had begun to infuse. Shennong, an avid herbalist, tried the peculiar beverage. He loved it! Without knowing it at the time, Shennong had discovered Tea!
It's important to note, however, that this was not Black Tea, but Green Tea. In fact, Black Tea didn't arrive until during the Chinese Qing Dynasty (1644-1912 CE). Historians believe that the first China Black Tea was Lapsang Souchong. This famously smoky Tea came into existence by pure accident. In time, however, it gave rise to other China Black Teas. This, of course, includes Passion Fruit Iced Tea!
