Most understandably, many of our customers believe that the concept of a “flavoured” tea is a relatively new phenomenon. This is a common misconception. In fact, flavouring tea, in some form or another, dates back almost as far as the actual discovery of tea over 5,000 years ago. During this time, leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant were often infused with fruits, herbs, spices, and oils to complement differing personal tastes.
Almost any type of tea can be flavoured. However, Black Tea is considered the most popular accounting for its ability to accommodate many strong, often heavy flavours. Flavoured Green Tea, on the other hand, is usually created using delicate, subtle flavours. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule on both counts. Passion Fruit Tea, meanwhile, is as tasty as they come. Waste no more time buying your soon-to-be favourite tea.
Type of Tea: Flavoured Black Tea.
Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water and infuse for 3 to 5 minutes.
How to Serve: This beverage is best served as it is.
Tasting Notes: This sweet, exotic, invigorating brew offers varying tastes that come in stages. A fruity punch first hits the palate followed by slight malty notes with a smooth finish.
Colour in Cup: Orangey-coppery liquor, light in tone.
Health Benefits: The Black Tea leaves are the healthiest component of this brew. They can improve cardiovascular health, enhance cognitive function, and even reduce the risks of Type II Diabetes. Perhaps most interesting of all, however, is its potential cancer-fighting abilities. In 2015, a meta-analysis found that drinking a cup of tea a day (no matter the type) reduced the risks of developing cancer by 2%.
Those who drank the most tea, on the other hand, had a 21% lower cancer risk than those who drank none. It’s important to note, though, that this research project and others like it are only in the preliminary stage. Until more is known, The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company do not endorse the consumption of Passion Fruit Tea, or any other tea, for the purpose of combating cancer.
