Description

Portsmouth Loose Tea 1.5 Kilo is a blend of Assam BP Teas of exceptional quality, showcasing what makes the renowned Indian state of Assam so, well, renowned! “BP” stands for “Broken Pekoe”, which refers to the literal breaking of the Tea leaf, which in turn promotes an enhanced strength of flavour in cup. For those who like a “hearty brew”, one would be hard-pressed to find one better than our Portsmouth Tea.

The name “Portsmouth” derives from the fact that this Tea first gained popularity in, you guessed it, Portsmouth. Today, one can find this brew in not just Portsmouth, in not just Hampshire, in not just England, but around the world.

We’re proud to stock it here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company, and are proud of the fact that, like all of our Loose Teas, it is packed fresh to order here in our Pluckley-based factory, a quaint English village nestled away within the enchanting vistas of the Kentish countryside. Packing it fresh to order not only ensures quality, but also consistency.

Best of all, there are health benefits to be had from frequently consuming this brew. When enjoyed as part of a healthy and active lifestyle, Portsmouth Leaf Tea, a Black Tea, can boost the metabolism, improve cardiovascular health, support the immune system, enhance cognitive function and reduce the risks of developing numerous chronic conditions, though in particular, type-2 diabetes. But how?

This Black Tea contains an abundance of beneficial antioxidants capable of combating free radicals in the body. These free radicals are the product of natural, though harmful, human oxidation. When left unchecked, oxidation, and in turn free radicals, can wreak havoc on the body. The frequent consumption of this Tea, however, could potentially reverse the harmful effects of oxidation. What more could you possibly want from your morning cuppa’?

Type of Tea: Loose Leaf Black Tea.

Origin: Assam, India.

Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water and infuse for 3 to 5 minutes.

How to Serve: Milk, sugar, honey or lemon - the choice is yours. Alternatively, serve black.

Tasting Notes: Portsmouth Loose Tea 1.5 Kilo boasts a fusion of malty-sweet flavours perfect for any time in the day. It lingers on the palate long over one has drained their cup, no doubt enticing the taste buds enough to brew up another!

Colour in Cup: Coppery liquor, light in tone.

Health Benefits: We’ve all read the research in the papers that Tea can improve one’s everyday way of life in a multitude of scientifically-based ways, but on a fundamental level, it also maintains our happiness with it being a “simple pleasure”. However, there is even scientific research to support this! According to a recent study, chronic stress (i.e. not stopping to relax with a nice, hot cup of Portsmouth Tea) disrupts our sleep and blood sugar levels.

This leads to increased hunger and comfort eating, which in turn, leads to even higher levels of stress and even more disrupted blood sugar levels. Ultimately, this might cause not only unhealthy levels of body fat, but also an increased risk of developing type-2 diabetes! The solution is simple: stop, then brew up a cup of Portsmouth Tea!

  10. We call this our "afternoon" tea. It is a great tasting blend, very refreshing if we've been working in the garden and want to unwind. We like our tea strong and this makes a robust, well-flavoured tea which can be refreshed if you add some more boiling water to the pot, ready for your second cup.
