Rooibos tea has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when it was first used for herbal remedies by the Khoisan tribes of the Cederberg Region in South Africa. For hundreds of years, this delicious beverage remained a tribal secret until Europeans began to colonise the continent. By the 18th Century, a botanist by the name of Carl Humberg had brought about a more widespread interest in the drink and soon Rooibos was being shipped across the world!
During the Second World War, Rooibos tea was heavily relied upon as importing tea from the Asian continent became increasingly difficult due to the Japanese occupation. Soon, the demand was far surpassing the availability but it would not be until the 1960’s that Rooibos tea’s history took an incredible turn. In 1968, a South African mother by the name of Annique Theron, published a book on Rooibos tea’s amazing health benefits. After the book’s release, scientific studies were frequently conducted to discover this wonder-blend’s true potential. In fact, even today, research is still ongoing as new advantages to consuming Rooibos tea are unearthed on a yearly basis!

Origin: The Cederberg Region, South Africa.
Ingredients: Red bush tea, Chinese bamboo leaves, pineapple pieces, apple pieces, lemongrass, lemon peel, natural flavouring and freeze-dried strawberry pieces.
Rooibos Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water and infuse for 8 to 10 minutes.

Further to this, we now know Rooibos tea can fight off the early signs of premature aging, as well as reducing the symptoms of seasonal allergies. In a 2009 interview, Dr. Theron said:
“It was a long but delightful journey. And I'm so happy that I could've been the instrument to have achieved that... as far as rooibos is concerned.” But as new advantages are discovered every year, the journey is far from over!
