Description

Russian Caravan Smoky is a strong, full-bodied and, of course, smoky infusion from start to finish. It is a type of Black Tea, a blend to include leaves from China, Formosa (Taiwan) and the Indian district of Darjeeling.

Best of all, we pack it fresh to order here at our Pluckley-based factory, nestled within the captivating vistas of the Kentish countryside. This ensures not only quality but also consistency.

But why choose Russian Caravan Smoky over, say, regular Russian Caravan Tea or Lapsang Souchong? All three beverages, after all, have a distinct smokiness with every sip.

But this particular brew offers more still, a choice made by those wanting flavours to truly stand out. Rarely will you find a Tea more powerful, wholesome and invigorating than this one!

More Facts About this Tea

  • Around 80% of Russians drink Tea.
  • This particular infusion owes its origins to the Sino-Russian trade route.
  • When travelling merchants rested by fires, the Tea took on its smoky character.
  • Reportedly, it appealed to Russian tastes because of its notes reminiscent of tobacco.

Today, Russian Caravan Tea is not only popular in Russia - but around the world.

Does Russian Caravan Smoky have Caffeine?

Russian Caravan Smoky is a variety of Black Tea, which, in turn, is one of the four primary types originating from the Camellia sinensis plant.

This is one of around 60 plants to naturally contain caffeine, with others including Coffea (Coffee) and Cacao (Cocoa). Specifically, this beverage offers, on average, 40-mg of caffeine per 8-oz cup. In other words, it makes for a great start to the day!

Benefits of Russian Caravan Smoky Tea

Did you know that Russian Caravan Smoky can enhance cognitive function? A study conducted at the University of Singapore and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has the answers.

The research project saw some 2,500 participants aged 55 or over undergo cognitive measuring. Two years later, scientists remeasured those involved. The results established that participants who drank two or three cups of Black Tea a day had a 55% lower chance of suffering from cognitive decline. Those who drank six to ten cups a day, meanwhile, had up to a 63% lower chance.

But that’s not all. In 2015, a meta-analysis found that drinking a cup of Tea a day (no matter the type) reduced the risks of developing cancer by 2%. Those who drank the most Tea, on the other hand, had a 21% lower cancer risk than those who drank none.

It’s important to note, however, that The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company does not endorse the consumption of Tea for this purpose at this stage. Nevertheless, we support ongoing preliminary research.

  5. Some of the teas are outstanding and great for blending: e.g. Keemun with Darjeeling with a little smokey Russian caravan. Excellent range, with teas individually described. The flavour of K&S teabags that we've tried is good but not outstanding.
