The earliest record of this part of London dates back to the 1086 Domesday Book. However, most of its development took place during the 17th and 18th centuries.
By the 1800s, the Duke of Bedford oversaw further expansion of Bloomsbury, with its popularity soaring during the Regency era. By the 20th century, the area had a close association with the likes of Virginia Woolf and T.S. Eliot.
