The first reference to Bexhill was in a charter granted by King Offa of Mercia in 772 CE. During this period, it was known as “Bexelei”. It’s likely that following the 1066 Battle of Hastings, much of the area was destroyed.

It recovered over hundreds of years, later becoming home to the King’s German Legion in 1804. This unit played a vital role in the Battle of Waterloo of 1815.

Bexhill has hosted the works of Andy Warhol, Cerith Wyn Evans and Richard Wilson. It was also where Bob Marley made his first UK appearance.

Today, fans of history, music and art would be hard-pressed to find a better place to visit. Once you’ve had your ‘fix’ of culture, why not stop in an Afternoon Tea Bexhill establishment for lunch?
