Canterbury is a city in Kent, England. This historic location, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies on the River Stour about 55 miles east-southeast of London. Nearby places of interest include Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham. However, you certainly won’t need to go that far to find an excellent Afternoon Tea Canterbury venue.

People have inhabited the Canterbury area since prehistoric times. In the 1st century AD, it became a Roman settlement named Durovernum Cantiacorum. After suffering attacks from the Vikings, residents did little to resist the Norman Conquest hundreds of years later. The city later became the inspiration behind Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th-century classic, “The Canterbury Tales”.

A day trip here isn’t complete without a visit to Canterbury Cathedral, once home to the famed Thomas Becket. There is also the option of catching a performance at the renowned Marlowe Theatre. Alternatively, you could take a punt down the river. Just be sure to stop for an Afternoon Tea in Canterbury at some point or another!
