Located in the “Garden of England” is Ashford, Kent. This town lies on the River Stour at the south edge of the North Downs. There is much happening in this thriving area, including the choice of several Afternoon Tea Ashford venues. Many such establishments use locally-sourced Tea from The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
People have inhabited the region surrounding Ashford since the Iron Age. Incidentally, it became known for its ironworks during the Roman era. (Today, of course, it’s better known for Afternoon Tea in Ashford!). The present town originates from a settlement established in 893 AD. The name “Ashford” comes from the Old English word “æscet”, referring to a ford near a clump of ash trees.
Visitors can learn more about the area at the Ashford Borough Museum. History fans may also enjoy seeing the First World War era tank located in the town centre. Those who prefer shopping may like the Ashford Designer Outlet on the outskirts. If you do only one thing, however, make it an Afternoon Tea in Ashford! You won’t be disappointed!
