The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company (also called The Kent Tea & Trading Company) was established officially in 1982 upon the return of Mr Richard Smith, the owner, from India; however, our story with tea begins long before then. Three generations of the Smith family have worked in the Tea Industry starting with Mr Robert Stammers and his wife Mrs Madeline Stammers, grandfather and grandmother to Mr Richard Smith, who were tea planters in India for over thirty years, beginning in the 1920’s.
Their daughter, Janet – mother of Mr Richard Smith – married Mr Malcolm Smith and together, they continued working in the Tea Trade, managing one of India’s largest tea plantation companies based in Calcutta.
Both Mrs Janet Smith and son Mr Richard Smith nurture The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company today. And while much has changed in the Industry since the 1920’s, our passion for tea has not. Nor has our equally strong passion for coffee.
