Dark Roast Coffee Beans are the product of heats between 465°F – 485°F. This coincides with a phenomenon known in the Coffee world as the ‘second crack’. But what, exactly, does this do? As a rule of thumb, the darker the roast, the less the beans resemble their original, ‘natural’ character.
However, in its place, this coffee roasting method creates bitter, smoky notes with subtle hints of charcoal. In terms of appearance, the beans have a dark brown colour and a distinctly oily surface. Ultimately, they boast low acidity, heavy body and deep, complex flavours.
