What does "BOP" Mean?

"BOP" stands for "Broken Orange Pekoe". The term "broken", as the name likely suggests, refers to the leaves being broken into small pieces. This often boasts a stronger character in cup than that of a FOP (Flowery Orange Pekoe) Tea.

We recommend choosing a BOP is you like your Tea notably flavoursome. For this, we indeed recommend Assam Tea Keyhung Estate BOP 2nd Flush.

The Keyhung Tea Estate

Keyhung lies within the Assamese district of Tinsukia and on the south side of the mighty Brahmaputra river. This majestic waterway brings life to the low-level Tea plantations along its bank. This, in turn, contributes significantly to the hearty, full-bodied flavours of Assam Tea.

The estate finds itself on the road south from the town and before one reaches the famous Tingri Golf Club and Deohall Tea Estate. Incidentally, Deohall was where the Smith Family called home when they lived in Assam. They later moved back to the UK in the 1970s and established The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.

In the last few years, Mr Richard Smith's uncle, Mr Bob Stammers, visited Keyhung Tea Garden. He was quick to remark on the unique taste of the Tea grown there. This, of course, includes our Assam Tea Keyhung Estate BOP 2nd Flush.

Today, Keyhung is a Mcleod Russel Tea Estate, which is part of the Williamson Magor Group. Its Tea-growing land covers 600 hectares, producing over one and a half million tonnes per annum. Over 3,000 workers and their families live within its boundaries.

The management offers amenities such as education and healthcare to ensure the wellbeing of the community. This is monitored diligently by The Ethical Tea Sourcing Partnership (ETP) programme. Ultimately, Keyhung maintains both the quality of its Tea and the welfare of its workers.
