The story of Strawberries and Cream Tea is a British one, but to fully understand its origins we must first travel ‘across the pond’ to the United States of America. While consuming fruit teas pre-dates the American nation, it was here that it first rose from obscurity to become the beverage known and loved today. Prior to the Declaration of Independence in 1776, colonial Americans, then considered British subjects of the Crown, had grown restless from extortionate taxes on tea importation. “No taxation without representation” was a common slogan used during this period.
It referred to how the Americans were forced to pay tax on tea, but had no representation in the British Parliament. In 1773, colonists angry with this taxation dressed up as Native Americans and took part in what is now known as the Boston Tea Party. This saw tons upon tons of Green Tea dumped into the Boston Harbour in protest. Following this, and during the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), soon-to-be American citizens began consuming fruit teas and herbal teas, the ingredients of which could be grown locally without importation.
Just over a century later, the now-established United States of America was once again thrown into the limelight following the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. According to records, an estimated 200,000 people attended on the first day of the event during what was one of the hottest days of the year. This saw many members of the public searching for cold refreshments, as opposed to hot tea. Richard Blechynden, a tea vendor on site, soon found himself struggling to make sales, and as a result, began to pour his tea over ice. Mr. Blechynden would go on to popularise Iced Tea, which today, is known and loved around the world, especially when using ingredients such as those found in our Strawberry and Cream Tea. So, whatever side of the pond you’re on, or if you’re anywhere else in the world, for that matter, we strongly recommend you pick up this fruit tea to see what the fuss is all about! We guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Brewing Instructions: Brew using freshly boiled water and infuse for 5 to 10 minutes.
How to Serve: This beverage is best served as it is.

Colour in Cup: Velvety red liquor, dark in tone.
Health Benefits: We all know the main contributor to weight gain: eating more in calories than we burn off in energy. But though this may be true, Strawberry and Cream Tea could actually prevent this from happening in the first place. A recent study has indicated that chronic stress disrupts our sleep and, arguably most important, our blood sugar levels. This leads to increased hunger and comfort eating. This then leads to further disrupted sleep, even higher levels of stress and even more disrupted blood sugars.
Ultimately, this not only causes unhealthy levels of body fat, but also, very potentially, Type II Diabetes. The ingredients in Strawberry and Cream Tea, meanwhile, act as appetite suppressants, thus stopping you from raiding the fridge. More to the point, this tea is a natural destresser. First, the gorgeous taste of this beverage is enough to make anyone chill out; second of all, Strawberry and Cream Tea is completely caffeine free, meaning that you may enjoy this fruit tea before bedtime and not fear sleeplessness.
