South African Teas
South Africa is the home of one particularly extraordinary Herbal Tea: Rooibos, or red bush. This plant, known botanically as Aspalathus linearis, grows exclusively in the Cederberg region, located in the Western Cape Province. Indigenous South Africans have consumed Rooibos for centuries. Now you can, too, here at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company.
Rooibos can reach heights of up to 3 feet (0.9 metres) and has thin, needle-like leaves. It's these leaves used in the making of this delicious infusion. When brewed, it often has a distinct herbaceous flavour with notes reminiscent of nuts, honey and caramel.
While many people choose this beverage for its taste, others marvel at its Rooibos Tea benefits. This Herbal Tea is caffeine-free and low in tannins. It also contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Aspalathin, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium and Zinc. These compounds present in Rooibos tea, many of which are antioxidants, can support healthy living in several ways like preventing heart disease, aiding with breast cancer, lowering blood pressure, and maintaing heart health.
We stock many choices of Rooibos. This includes so-called "red" Rooibos, which is a fully oxidised and fermented variety. There is also the option of a "green" Rooibos Tea, which is the herb in its most natural form. Alternatively, we have dozens of flavoured brews. Whatever you decide, you've decided well with us. We pack every Tea, Tisane and Coffee fresh to order.
