Description

Rose Congou is a rare, exquisite Flavoured China Black Tea. It’s the product of layering rose petals into the finest quality Chinese Tea, creating a floral infusion unlike any other. The word “Congou” means the same as “Kung Fu”, which in turn means “time and effort”.

In the context of this remarkable beverage, this term refers to the care and diligence required for its making.

When brewed, Rose Congou offers delicately sweet notes with refined floral undertones. Combine this with the full-bodied flavour of China Black Tea and one has a match made in heaven. Even better, studies indicate that Rose Congou, like all types of Black Tea, can promote healthy living.

Countless researchers now agree that it might, among other qualities, help with weight loss and reduce diabetes risks.

The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company pack every Loose Tea, Tisane and Coffee fresh to order. This is our way of guaranteeing not only quality but also consistency. Rose Congou is, of course, no exception. Buy it today and find out for yourself.

A Brief History of China Black Tea

Black Tea has mysterious origins. Although a few theories exist, no one can truly agree on how and when it first emerged. Some argue that the first Black Tea created was Lapsang Souchong during the Chinese Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Whether there is any truth to this remains a topic of significant debate. However, there is nevertheless one fascinating legend surrounding it.

The story in question follows a group of farmers living near the village of Tong Mu Guan. One day, while tending to their Tea crop, the farmers were confronted by bandits looking to steal their produce.

These villainous raiders demanded that the Tea be ready for taking upon their return to the village. Yet the farmers weren’t prepared to give up so easily.

Harvesting the leaves as quickly as possible, the dutiful workers, keen to get their crop to market, decided to dry it over pinewood fires. The result was an unmistakably smoked Tea. At first, the farmers grew disheartened, believing they’d ruined their produce.

However, as it turned out, they hadn’t. Upon arriving at the market, several Dutch traders expressed interest in this new, strange creation.

Lapsang Souchong, and indeed Black Tea as a whole, had been born. Over the course of the next few centuries, producers perfected the art of creating it, giving rise to a plethora of other varieties. Our Rose Congou is one such example. Why not try it today?

  6. An elegant, well-balanced rose tea: pairs well with darjeeling in a 2:1 ratio. Recommended for anyone who's not sure about blended teas and would like to try something of a flavouring not generally used in common food products.

  9. A sheer delight the perfect blend of a good quality Congou with just the right balance of Rose. The aroma is fresh but the taste just delights the palate unlike others that I have tasted that are over powering to the point of being unpleasant. I particularly love this tea in the afternoon.
