More About Japanese Tea

Tea (お茶, ocha) plays a hugely significant role in Japanese culture and society. Green Tea, in particular, including our very own Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea, is undoubtedly the most popular kind.

Its history dates back many hundreds of years, with it having a close association with Buddhism. Two monks called Saicho and Kukai were the first people to introduce Tea trees from China during the 8th century.

For some 400 years after, however, Japanese Green Tea was all but forgotten. It wasn’t until another Buddhist monk named Eisai (1141-1215 CE) re-popularised it in 1191 that it once again became a known entity.

He later wrote a book entitled “Kissa Yojoki - How to Stay Healthy by Drinking Tea.” In it, he stated that: “Tea is the ultimate mental and medical remedy.”

Nowadays, popular Loose Leaf Green Tea types include Sencha, Matcha, Bancha, Gyokuro and Kukicha. Each one has something unique, indeed extraordinary, to offer - all of which we stock here. Then there is, of course, Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea.

Why not start your journey with this particular infusion today? Discover its true potential, all the while treating yourself and indulging.

Benefits of Japan Mount Fuji Green Tea

This wholesome, nutritious beverage contains L-theanine, an amino acid capable of reducing anxiety while promoting sleep.

It functions by increasing the body’s production of Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), serotonin and dopamine. GABA, in particular, plays an essential role in behaviour, cognition and the body’s response to stress.

Serotonin and dopamine also have a similar effect, regulating emotions, mood and concentration. According to research published in the Journal of Nutrition & Intermediary Metabolism, L-theanine reduced anxiety in 104 participants experiencing stressful situations.

Another study shows that it can increase relaxation without causing drowsiness.
