At the End of 2022 we made a decision to put a hold on this, we wanted and needed to focus on other areas of the business related to eco friendliness and sustainability.
The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company are proud to be in partnership with Tree-Nation, an organisation that gathers and coordinates reforestation efforts worldwide.
Through our association with Tree-Nation, every online order we receive means a tree is planted. It is our way of supporting mother nature while combating the effects of climate change with the aim to become carbon neutral as a business.
There are several reasons for this partnership. Most notably, as a family-run business with a global outreach, we’re increasingly aware of our carbon footprint and its impact. Why Plant Trees?
Without plants and trees, The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company wouldn’t exist. After all, your morning cuppa usually comes from either Camellia Sinensis (the Tea plant) or Coffea Arabica (the most common Coffee plant).
Yet this is but the beginning. The big picture is, indeed, far greater and immeasurably more significant than that.
Trees are the lungs of our planet. They provide us with the oxygen we breathe while simultaneously removing earth-wrecking emissions from the air.
Planting more of these remarkable, natural skyscrapers works towards offsetting carbon, which is, unmistakably, the most life-threatening greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Simply put, trees help in protecting us from the degradation of our climate.

An email will be sent to you outlining the required steps, whereby just a couple of clicks makes all the difference. You will be able to see the species of tree planted, as well as its location in the world.
Perhaps most importantly, the tool provided by Tree-Nation enables you to see the calculated amount of CO2 offset by your outstanding efforts.
Over time, the trees planted by you through our company become a thriving, beneficial forest.

Richard Smith is a Tea expert, entrepreneur, and owner of The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company. Part of a family of renowned Tea planters dating back four generations, he was born in Calcutta (Kolkata), India, where he spent his childhood between Tea Estates in Assam and Darjeeling.
In the late 1970s, having accumulated years of knowledge in the industry, Mr Smith and his mother, Janet Smith, moved to Kent, South East England, to establish a Tea business in the village of Pluckley. Their early days of packing Tea Bags by hand from chests of 10,000 prompted the creation of the company’s flagship infusion known as Pluckley Tea. It remains our most popular product today.
Mr Smith, who studied economics at London Polytechnic, has since specialised in over 1,000 types of Loose Leaf Tea - in addition to around 70 varieties of Roast Coffee - from around the world. These are now available at The Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company, where everything is still packed by hand and fresh to order, not only to honour tradition but to ensure the utmost quality and consistency.
